Maldives Holidays in Male

Tourism is a growing industry and many countries have invested much time and effort into developing their tourist spots in order to attract more people. This investment and effort has paid off for many of them. Countries like the Maldives have an advantage over others due to their ideal location, amazing weather and natural surroundings. Maldives holidays signify comfort, adventure, magic and much more to tourists looking forward to visiting this wonderful land.

The enchanting Maldives encompasses a total of 1190 beautiful islands. Some of them, more than 80, are tourist resorts that cater to the vast number of visitors that the country receives each year. On the whole, two hundred islands out of the 1190 are inhabited, which means tourists have a whole world to explore and enjoy. You may even visit some of the uninhabited islands and play Robinson Crusoe if you wish.

Maldives is a land of warm, loving people who will welcome every visitor with open arms. You might decide to stay at one of the resorts while you are on holiday and avail all the modern facilities and sports that are offered. Apart form these resorts, many sights are worth seeing in this historical land. Some of the ones worth mentioning are the Male Fish Market, the Artificial Beaches, the Mulee Aage Palace, Esjehi Art Gallery, Hukuru Misliiy, The National Museum, The beaches of Maldives and the Grand Friday Mosque.

The Grand Friday Mosque is perhaps the most important historical building in the Maldives. Its real name is Masjid-al-Sultan Mohammed Thakurufaanu-al-A “z” zam. I suppose you understand now why it’s just called the Grand Friday Mosque. Constructed in 1656, this imposing structure has enough space for five thousand people. Situated in Male, the mosque is the most obvious feature of the island and is visible form afar.

Opposite the Friday Mosque is another fabulous historical structure form the age of the Sultans. The Mulee Aage Palace was constructed in 1906 and was home to the Sultan Mohammed Shamsudeen the third’s son. It has also been the home of the president of Maldives after it became a republic. Today, it is the President’s office and the site for important official meetings.

If you are looking for more history, stay in Male and look around to discover the National Museum of Maldives. The Sultan Park, where the museum is located, was a part of the Sultan’s palace and therefore, has various items from his personal use. The different items in the museum give the modern visitor a very good understanding of the splendor and luxury of their lives in those bygone times.

Maldives are a bunch of islands grouped together, however, the capital city of Male does not have a beach. All the other islands have beautiful beaches and water sports that are natural. To make up for this, an artificial beach has been constructed in Male and is the site of many enjoyable games and sports that are enjoyed by visitors and locals alike. It is no different than any other beach and more than compensates for the lack of a real one.

The Maldives holidays are a time for the whole family to enjoy. Due to its excellent package of climate, historical sites, nature and modern facilities, Maldives is usually a top priority for many holidaymakers.
